Fortnightly Club at the 100th Meridian
The Fortnightly Study Club standing on the 100th meridian which goes through Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel. This line splits the US in half. John Wesley Powell cam up with the term 100th Meridian in 1878 upon seeing that the line separates the eastern U. S. where rain is generally more prevalent from the west, which is drier. The line runs from the North to the South Pole and cuts through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota in the United States.
